What is Faux FinishingOver a thousand years old, faux finishing is the process of creating a finish on a material that deceives the eye and then defies the eye to discern the difference. Professional faux finishing transcends mere sponging, rag rolling, and application with textured rollers. From marbles, granites, and limestone, to exotic woods and texturing, faux finishes have been used to create the appearance of expensive materials where the use of the actual stones or woods are cost prohibitive or otherwise impractical. Cost prohibitive, not only from a materials standpoint, but from a labor perspective as well. The cost of labor has been increasing while the craftsman performing the trades of stone and woodcarvings has been on the decline. Professionally applied faux finishes have become the affordable choice of replicating the Old World craftsmanship. This technique of reproduction has been made easier, due to the recent launch of the Italian Masters range of products. Designed for the professional user, and entirely waterbased (for both environmental reasons and ease of use), the products provide a level of finish and simplicity of application never before seen. Moreover they provide improved durability, no odor, and better chemical resistance than the old oil based products they replace. |
